Emptiness: Launch Party and Best Story Vote

At long last, spring has finally arrived in southern Ontario. At the very least, the birds have made a nest in my tree and started pooping on my car—my usual signal for spring.

Emptiness: A One-Shot Anthology of Speculative Fiction has been released for a while. I hope you’ve had the chance to read some stories and poems within. If so, head over to the poll to vote for your favourite pieces. You can pick your top three, or just your top one, whatever floats your boat. Poll closes Saturday May 23, 2026 at 11am, on the morning of…

RSVP for the book launch via Meetup.

The Emptiness launch party is happening Saturday May 23, 2026 at 4:15pm! Join me and other contributing authors for book signings, readings, speeches, prizes, and more!

Emptiness is the #1 Amazon bestselling anthology featuring 48 stories and poems from the Toronto Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers, all written in a single day. Purchase your copy on Amazon, or grab a copy at the launch party and get it signed by multiple contributing authors.

I’ve had the honour and privilege of compiling this book, and also contributing my story “The Rejuvenation Machine”, about a figure skater who uses dangerous and banned technology in pursuit of Olympic gold.

Hope you are enjoying the spring (or whatever season reigns in your part of the world). If you are based in Toronto or can make it there: see you at the book launch! I will have both good and bad jokes in abundant supply.

Emptiness: A One-Shot Anthology. Plus, Indigo Event and Aurora Award Nominations

I started the year dabbling as a publisher. As you may or may not know, it’s a semi-annual tradition for the Toronto Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers to produce a one-shot anthology. This means stories written in a single day, centred around a common theme and gathered together in one book.

This was my first year leading the project, and the first time a one-shot anthology was published under my imprint, Myriad Flames. Emptiness, the ninth and latest one-shot anthology, was released on February 10, 2026 and has already celebrated many successes:

  • Reaching #1 on the Amazon bestseller lists in three categories: Genre Fiction Anthologies, Science Fiction Short Stories, and Fantasy Anthologies.
  • Largest one-shot anthology to date, totalling almost 120,000 words.
  • Phenomenal cover art from Helvetica Blanc (thank you to R.H. Wesley for securing the rights and doing the cover design).

I contributed a story of my own to Emptiness: “The Rejuvenation Machine” follows a figure skater who will do anything for Olympic gold, including sacrificing his future years to the titular technology. And coincidentally, it was released right in time for the Winter Olympics.

Emptiness is available on Amazon in all territories, as an ebook and a paperback. It is also available on Kindle Unlimited. Find your local Amazon site here: https://books2read.com/emptiness
